Your List to Check
When you decide to move:
- Give us as much notice as possible
- If renting, advise owner or agent of the required notice
- Give as much detail as possible to the Acott advisor
Advice these local authorities of your move:
- SAGASCO and ETSA
- Telecom and Australia Post
- Your bank or building society
- S.A. Water
- Insurance companies
- H.P. companies and or stores where you have accounts
- Schools
- Registrar of motor vehicles (car registration and drivers licence)
- Publications to which you subscribe
- Doctor or dentist (ask them to recommend someone in your new area)
Just before you move:
- Cancel your milkman, newsagent, fuel, oil, baker, soft drink vender and dry cleaners
- Remove all food from refrigerator
- Clean out medicine cabinet and dispose of all old medicine (you chemist will do this - it's safer)
- Empty fuel from mowers, lamps, fuel heaters etc

- Get your dry cleaning and shoes back from the respective shops
- Empty your garbage bins and wash them.
- If you are doing your own packing arrange to have the correct material and have an adequate amount. Ask our representative for the cost of these and ask what quantity you will require
- Disconnect your hoses from your washing machine
- Bolt down you turntable on the record player and secure the arm
- Sort out the contents of the garage or other storage areas and decide what you want to take and arrange for the disposal of the rest
- Return anything you may have borrowed from friends or neighbours
- Defrost your refrigerator and freezer
- Make arrangements for removal of your valuables i.e. documents, money, jewellery and photos. Anything of great value should be carefully itemised and special insurance cover taken out
Allow plenty of time for these jobs to be done:
- Arrange for a qualified serviceman to dismantle your TV antenna
- Arrange for any furniture you don't want to be sold or given to friends or a worthwhile charity
- Arrange for an electrician to disconnect any special electrical or light fittings you may want to take with you
On Moving day:
- Be sure to tell our men as soon as they arrive whether they may use the driveway or not (they will want to know this for your new home too)
- Turn off water heater and drain it
- Tighten all taps
- Check gas and electrical switched and lights
- Lock windows and doors
- Nothing left lying around in the yard
- You will be happy to know that Acott can provide you with a special clean up service after you move
